1. How didja first hear about Freakylinks?

A former  employer of mine Googled himself-- something he did a LOT of ( talk about yer Narcissists)  and found a story about himself in the Freakopedia.  We were both pretty keen to follow the site after that.

2. Were you 'fooled' by the site? & if so,

Oh no-- I could tell right away Derek was a poseur when I first laid eyes on the splash-page.  HAHAHAH   A!! j/k Derek.. nothin' but LUV for ya!  Wink

3. ...for how long, before you found out the 'deeper truth' about Derek?

I ran into him & found(and shared) the 'deeper truth' about him a couple of weeks later.[/url]

4. Did you ever start your own Freaker site ( Like Freakyresearch, Freakopeida)

I sure did-- Creepyclicks!  Mine was the first and best so-called 'Freaker' site! I was criticized as being  a 'copycat' of Derek-- but it was all in fun. Plus, I saw there was a BUCK TO BE MADE!! I sold three 'Creepyclicks' tee shirts, even!!

5. Favorite entry

'

6. How many screen-names did you use on the FL board?

I was mainly a lurker...  I posted in the Fever a couple of times-- but mostly as myself.

7. Best story from your Freakylinks days-- doesn;t have to be related to freakylinks...

There was this trip to England, where I 'picked up' a pretty old book about Faeries...  I guess I'm just a softie at heart!

Lastly....

8. "Has anything freaky happened to anyone today"... (remember Beleiver?)

Today? Nahhh. I used to follow all that
freaky' ness but it got to be too much like 'work'.  I keep away from most freaky stuff now. In general I tend to keep on the down-low these days.  (A price on your head will make ya do that. )

1 I first heard about it from the fox commercial, which was several months before the show aired, I check-out the site briefly posted in a thread on a religious argument. I did check out 'Derek's" journal entries from time to time but never really devoted my time to the site.

2 I wasn't involved with the site deep enough to be fooled

3 I never really believed Derek to be real due to watching the show and never really being into the web site

4 no

5 freakylinks 1st episode

6 I believe I've posted on the board only once or twice under a name which I no longer remember

7 None, really

8 No, nothing freaky and no I dont remember Believer, but I think his name appeared in one of Derek's journal entries

Ohh... Believer used to post that same question on the discussion board,  every single day:  "Has anything freaky happened to anyone today?"  It was just cute.  Without fail, every time I pulled up the board, Believer's post would be out there somewhere asking that same question. Sometimes he'd get a story or two in reply.

Are you freakin kidding me?  I've been around for YEARS and I never did this... odd...

1. How didja first hear about Freakylinks?

It was either a friend that told me about the site or a tv ad I saw before the show came out.

2. Were you 'fooled' by the site? & if so,

I don't think so... but I was young

3. ...for how long, before you found out the 'deeper truth' about Derek?

If I had the inclination that it was a show about a site that existed, it ended as soon as I saw pictures of Derek.  Go "Can't Hardly Wait"

4. Did you ever start your own Freaker site ( Like Freakyresearch, Freakopeida)

I never had the web know-how to do it, but I've often considered going on the road to do a film project similar to the Freakylinks idea.

5. Favorite entry

That one's really tough... I loved the grandma with the satanic alter with milk and cookies, but the space one where they have actual vid of Derek and Jason asking questions was great since you never saw it on tv.

6. How many screen-names did you use on the FL board?

On the real website, I think I only posted once or twice, and I honestly don't remember my handle.  On here, I think I had myself as KingRob, but then my account got deleted or whatever do to forum maintainance and now it's Dib.

7. Best story from your Freakylinks days-- doesn't have to be related to freakylinks...

I guess my best story is when I first watched the show... I was in the basement by myself in the dark and the show got to me in a great way.  Not actually scaring me (hard to do), but intruiging me to the point where I found myself lurking around the site on a regular basis.

Beyond that, I really gots nothing.  I was too young to have any great adventures.

Lastly....

8. "Has anything freaky happened to anyone today"... (remember Beleiver?)

I woke up early to let the tow truck guy get at my car, then slept again until 2:30 or so... that's out of the ordinary.  And I realized that when I'm at home I have very interesting, intricate dreams... at my house up at college, I have much shorter, to-the-point dreams, if any.

Oh, and Sasquatch was dumping alligators into the sewer grate, but that happens every tuesday.

1. How didja first hear about Freakylinks?
-I first saw the show years ago, and I loved it. I was disappointed to see it canceled. Then my cable company picked up Chiller TV (RCN Cable Services) and I was able to watch all of the episodes of FreakyLinks again... Man I missed the show!

2. Were you 'fooled' by the site? & if so,
-What do you by fooled?

3. ...for how long, before you found out the 'deeper truth' about Derek?
-Still oblivious... can someone fill me in? I just recently refound the website, because every time I typed in FreakyLinks.com I was redirected to a porn directory.

4. Did you ever start your own Freaker site ( Like Freakyresearch, Freakopeida)
-I'm currently working on a Freak project called FreakCentral.CJB.NET (Coming to FreakCentral in May will be the official name, FreakCentral.Net)

5. Favorite entry
-The latest... it brings about questions in my mind.

6. How many screen-names did you use on the FL board?
- Just this one?

7. Best story from your Freakylinks days-- doesn;t have to be related to freakylinks...
-I've had a few... My nephew's house in on top of the underground railroad, been out to Gettysburg and felt some serious mojo working out there... and this summer I'm going to be visiting some big time PA haunts.

Lastly....

8. "Has anything freaky happened to anyone today"... (remember Beleiver?)
Not today... well not to me anyway.

By deeper truth do you mean the character Derek Barnes, or the guy writing on the site as Derek Barnes?

Hey FreakCentral! Welcome to the board!

By deeper truth do you mean the character Derek Barnes, or the guy writing on the site as Derek Barnes?

Space meant, were you fooled into believing the website was real before falling into the TV series?

It's good to hear that Chiller is doing a great job of re-energizing Freaky fandom. Good luck with your PA investigations and the website! One word for you there in PA---- Centralia. Grin

Yeah, what Shadow said.

The show debuted in October, 2000... but the original website did what they now call 'viral marketing'-- it was actually started 6 months before the show,  in March 2000.  There were actually several other websites, too-- including Gunther Mahlberg's "Acquire-GM.com", Stu Carmichaels' "Creepyclicks" and Derek's old 'Monsterfreaks' free website that was on 'Geocities'.

Not only that, you could e-mail Derek & Lan, etyc, directly & could usually get a realistic, in-character reply from them!

A LOT of people found the website but never saw ads for the show, and they were actually were fooled into thinking Derek was an actual person living in Florida & going on all these crazy adventures.

Hey! Thanks for the welcome. I've always been a fan of FreakyLinks, and once RCN, a cable company in the Philadelphia Suburbs, got Chiller I was psyched! And Shadow, thanks for the Centralia link. I've played Silent Hill and I've seen the movie, but I think in the near future it might be interesting to do a field project in Centralia, PA. Sadly before the show aired on Fox I wasn't aware of the site. I became aware of it because of the show, but at the time I thought it was real (I was in 6th grade and had thought everything was legit). But yeah after common sense was instilled in me I figured it out, but I couldn't find the site anywhere because I didn't think to check Haxan. But I love it here.

One more thing before I disappear. Anyone remember the symbol on Derek's black beater in "Harbingers?" I can't remember but is that the same Japanese symbol as Ethan Embry's tattoo on his right wrist (Loyalty)?

Hey Garnet. I actually did a lot more digging around. The symbol on Derek's A-shirt in "Subject: The Harbingers" is called the anzen. It means peaceful... it also means cheap, but I'm going with peaceful. I'm actually wearing that symbol on a shirt right now, which I wear to do yoga. Anyways, I digress. Derek- or Ethan Embry-'s tattoos are actually Ethan Embry's tats. He has the loyalty tattoo on his right wrist- if I'm not mistaken-, some orb on his left... I hear and speculate that it's true that Ethan Embry actually does have a "dragon on [HIS] leg". I'm curious as to what the orb on his other wrist is of.

Thanks FC. I knew those tattoos were Ethan's, because I've seen them on his show: "Brotherhood"Wink But I was still curious as to what they meant... And thanks for clearing up the leg tattoo...I always thought it was a scorpion.

Undecided I can't help but wonder though, why Ethan Embry got so many tattoos? In 2006 he had those large crosses on each side of his ribs, for the movie:"Incident On and Off a Mountain Road", which I thought was pretty hot (I'm a girl, I can't help it Roll Eyes  )  But when I watched all his "Brotherhood" clips, I see where he's gotten more What's up with that?   Huh

But yea, Look up Ethan Embry /Declan Diggs / Brotherhood  on Youtube, and you'll see what I'm talking about...
