In the wee hours of his morning I switched the channel over to H2 to watch an episode of
Wild West Tech hosted by David Carradine. The episode was called "The Unexplained". The episode covered a lot of wild west supernatural legends ranging from bigfoot to wendigos to UFOs. As the episode played on I kept saying to myself that they've got to do a bit on the Thunderbird---- they didn't disappoint.
Before I knew it, the TV version of that famous picture spun on to the screen. Photoshopped Civil War soldiers and downed pteranodon in all their glory.
There were some variations in the original cowboy story from what I remembered, such as how they cut a piece of wing off to take back with then. The show implied that the original photo story came about as a sensationalized revisitation of the story by a later publication.
The thing that got me was how they showed and mentioned the FreakyLinks photo and seemed unsure of it's origins. Saying how the Civil War version turned up and sort of confused everything.
Anyhow, here are some good links on the subject (as if we freaks needed 'em):

Wild West Tech is shown randomly at the very best. I know it's out there and now you know too.
