Does anybody have a copy of that article from the Weekly World News where they credit Derek Barnes for finding the civil war photo with the Thunderbird in it? I'd love to see it...if anyone has it, can they post it here or something? The article's title is "Astonishing Civil War Photo Shows Giant Flying Reptile!" More info is on one of those sites I posted about FL. Here it is: http://tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve_main/1%2C1002%2C271|62452|1|10%2C00.html

I've wanted a copy of that article too, Linsey. I've even done eBay searches for it, but people seem to just throw those things out. (Can you really blame them?)

I keep just about every magazine I buy. Sometimes it's neat to just look through them after a few years, like looking back. The weekly world news ones, if I bought them, I might keep forever.

I've got a copy in my hand, but won't be able to scan it until tonight. It was the August 29, 2000 issue, it doesn't appear to be in their online archives.

Thanks Brian!!!! Scans would be -VERY- cool!!!

And yeah Linsey, I'm a terrible pack rat. You never know when things will come in handy, but I'd probably pitch the most recent issues of Weekly World News though. The cover story reads, "Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein in Love Nest". I can believe their Bat Boy stories much quicker.

Hey, we can wait! Wink If we get to see it, we'll be more than happy to wait. Thanks brian.

I tried going to their site but either couldn't find the archives or couldn't find the older issues. I can't believe they thought the thunderbird thing was real. They ought to check their sources, haha. That's really awesome though.

Hey, that's pretty cool! Thanks Brian. And amazingly, the article sounds educated, real fact-like, you know? Haha...wow. That's great.

This just goes to show you how Freakylinks has influenced even the garbage press.  And they don't want to put the series on DVD.  HA!

In the wee hours of his morning I switched the channel over to H2 to watch an episode of Wild West Tech hosted by David Carradine. The episode was called "The Unexplained". The episode covered a lot of wild west supernatural legends ranging from bigfoot to wendigos to UFOs. As the episode played on I kept saying to myself that they've got to do a bit on the Thunderbird---- they didn't disappoint.

Before I knew it, the TV version of that famous picture spun on to the screen. Photoshopped Civil War soldiers and downed pteranodon in all their glory.

There were some variations in the original cowboy story from what I remembered, such as how they cut a piece of wing off to take back with then. The show implied that the original photo story came about as a sensationalized revisitation of the story by a later publication.

The thing that got me was how they showed and mentioned the FreakyLinks photo and seemed unsure of it's origins. Saying how the Civil War version turned up and sort of confused everything.

Anyhow, here are some good links on the subject (as if we freaks needed 'em):

Heaven only knows when History or H2 will re-air that episode since Wild West Tech is shown randomly at the very best. I know it's out there and now you know too.

Too funny. I watched the episode also. I just smiled when they showed the pic. Freakylinks has gone a long way. We have kept it alive all these years.
