Here We Go!

« on: September 25, 2010, 02:24:51 AM »

I ran across this interview from Bullz-Eye.com with FreakyLinks creator David Goyer.

Bullz-Eye: Which do you think is more likely to come out on DVD, "FreakyLinks" or "Sleepwalkers"?

DG: At this point, probably "FreakyLinks",? because I
know they have sort of been re-airing it online or on fear.net or something like that. I'll be honest, I really didn't have much "Sleepwalkers" I was actually involved in with all of the episodes. "FreakyLinks"? I left before the pilot even filmed. I was not happy where that show went.

Bullz-Eye: Oh, really?

DG: Definitely not.

Bullz-Eye: Why? What didn't go right?

DG: It's not what we intended. If you were to read the original pilot that I co-wrote with Gregg Hale, it is a much different show than what is out there.

The interview is from last year when he was doing Flashforward and Goyer doesn't say anything he hasn't said before about the show, but it is interesting to see him talk on the subject.

You can read the whole interview here.

Sad That's too bad that Goyer was unhappy with the way Freaky Links turned out. On one hand I can sympathize with David (from an artist's point of view), however, I'm actually glad that Freaky Links turned out the way it did...

-I take it this show was to have a darker mood / atmosphere?

"I" like the fact that this show wasn't dark and moody. I think that's one of the reasons why I really took to this show.  Wink After seven years of faithfully viewing "The X-FILES",  I found Freaky Links to be a breath of fresh air..

I would still like to read the ORIGINAL copy of FEARSUM- you know, before it turned into our beloved FreakyLinks- how amazing of a story Hale and Goyer must have written... I think I'd be in paradise.

I really wonder how many versions there actually are of that pilot script. Everything I've read has been very close to what we got storywise. That is to say that all the main points are there give or take a few.

Somewhere deep in this message board Gregg mentioned that he didn't think he had his original copy any longer.

Sadly, I've scoured the 'net and not much crops up. There's got to be some sort of script and screenplay conventions like there are comics and toy conventions. There are collectors out there, it's just finding the ones with what we need.

I bet Goyer still has his. If only we could get in contact with him. I mean, I like the copy I have... but to be able to read FEARSUM in its original glory would be awesome.

Ahh, but what if this was the original copy or somewhat close to what we already have with just small changes here and there. I mean do you think there is another totally different script that would just blow us out of the water? I am not so sure this might exist until one shows itself. And who would really have something like this, since the show ended so early...but you never know. I am still amazed after 4 or so years after the show that Shadow found the promo media kit on ebay.

I honestly think there are two or three more variant versions with only slight differences than what we've got. Then there's the master script by Hale and Goyer that all variants are based on. I'm not sure the variants would blow us out of the water but I think the original Hale and Goyer script would.

That's just it--- you never know who has these things and when, or if, they'll turn up. Sadly our best possible source for an original script was Gregg and I remember him saying he didn't have a copy any longer. Cry
