Here We Go!

« on: September 29, 2009, 05:40:18 PM »

After raking History Channel's Monster Quest over the coals, I'm happy to say that I've found something the decerning freaker might enjoy.

Animal Planet (of all channels?) is showing a new season  of the 30 minute series called "Lost Tapes". Think of the hand-held camera bits of FreakyLinks mixed in with the documentary style of The Blair Witch Project or Curse of the Blair Witch and you've got "Lost Tapes".

The second season premieres tonight, Tuesday Sept. 29th, with two new episodes but showed four back-to-back episodes from season 1 on Sunday. The titles to the episodes I've seen so far are:

Cave Demons, which follows an Army unit into the caves of Afghanistan to have a close encounter with giant bats.

Death Raptor, where a group of amateur paranormal investigators hunt the Owl Man, a distant cousin of the Mothman.

Oklahoma Octopus, which to me feels the most FreakyLinks, where a group of teens decide a day at the lake is the right way to spend time together before going their separate ways before college. Unexpected tentacle attacks weren't what they bargained for.

And Chupacabra where border patrolmen tangle with what may well be the mythical creature. I was solidly entertained by all four episodes.

Tonight's new season 2 episodes are Vampire and Lizard Man.

I suppose my one complaint is that the shaky cam in some sequences can be way too shaky in spots, nowhere near the masters of the art like our Haxan bred material.

That aside, I'm sorry I missed the first season and honestly can't wait to see what other shaky cam filmed monsters they're got in store for us! Watch if you can.

Another new episode tonight! The werewolf episode from last week was an interesting twist.

Presently they're running a new season 2 episode with a season 1 episode following. This is great for those like me playing catch up.

Also season 1 is out now on DVD.

If anyone is interested, we're midway through season 3 on Tuesday nights. Some of their choices are outright interesting this season.

Zombies and Strigoi Vampire have been some of the episodes and I'm looking forward to the Wendigo next week.

I remember the Wendigo episode on Supernatural - Awesome. I do wish they would have stayed to the plan like they had with the first season. Everything went to hell after that.  HEHHEHE!

Yep, it mortifies me how that show keeps on putting out. I had issues with season 2 of Supernatural but it's a shining example of television over the garbage that has followed in later seasons. The Wendigo was one of the best monsters they did! Now it's just so many CGI-ed human actors with weird eyes or mouths. I don't even recognize that show anymore.

Embarrassed That's really sad that Supernatural went downhill in that respect. I've kind of stopped following that show....

I still follow it. Its actually one of my favorite shows... some of the episodes still stick true with monster myths but even in the first season the underlying story which started to begin to take an accelerated pace in season 2 has always been there.
