...who would be in the cast? I mean, assuming the original cast didn't want to come back, or the producer wanted to keep the cast as twenty-somethings to pull in a younger viewership....

Derek: howzabout that kid who starred in Sky High-- Michael Angarano. He looks freakishly similar to Ethan Embry to me. Are they related?

Shia LaBeouf - Adam Barnes / Derek Barnes
Kristen Bell - Chloe Tanner
Huh - Jason Tatum
Chiaki Kuriyama - Lan Williams
Channon Roe or Stephen Dorff - Vince Elsing

Ok it's a bit odd choices but i think these people would help bring in the views to keep FL on the air.

I think Mr Lebouf (whatev) has enough media exposure, thanks.  I'll give it to Mr. Sky High, though I wonder that they're both too young to be believable as guys living on their own off of a website.

Channon Roe... damn I love that guy.  Kindred: The Embraced was a fun show with him.

I wonder if the premise would have to be changed, though... we're not exactly in the days of internet booming and websites being singled out as awesome anymore... Sick and Disgusted (ing?) is the closest thing to what we'd see today... just a bunch of link dump sites and networking gigs like Myspace and Facebook.

And internet forums for us off-beat freakers...

Well-- technically Freakylinks.com was Derek's "blog".  Seems like since Freaklinks aired, blogging has become more & more mainstream thatnks to facebook & Myspace, and it's developed a hefty connection to the media & politics...

I can imagine a modern Freakylinks series that ties into that; as Derek's site & blog get more & more popular,  as he gets closer to stories people in power don't want told, there could be a fight to keep Derek online-- usage of other channels like 'Youtube' or free servers.

I could imagine Derek fighting to keep his fanbase together and his message online, through all sorts of odd channels...  as he lost access to  servers, hotlinking pushed his expenses thru the roof, his messageboards got shut down---  politicos start smearing Derek's reputation, to silence him.... Trolls & bots & hackers stage attacks on his site.

There WAS stuff like that happening on freakylinks.com, but it never made it into the tv show. Maybe the public has had more exposure to those kinds of things, so a show about them would be better received today.

I agree. I think that freakylinks.com would be more accepted by netizens today than it was back in 2000. Blogs were not so common at the time. You could say that Freakylinks.com was really ahead of its time on the internet. What the creators produced was a type of website that is now the norm on the internet today. Great point Spacey!

Heck even freakopedia.com had to deal with hackers and it's name being smeared or not believed. It comes with the territory. But I so see Derek being almost like a jungle web reporter. I like the whole premise and idea. Hell, one site would get shut down leaving clues to where the site would pop up next.

And in the text based medium of the website, that dramatically works fine but try to translate that into an episode to run in an hour timeslot. Watching a guy pull his hair out in front of a computer monitor, spewing expletives at said monitor, and dealing with being put on ignore by tech support on the phone isn't something very visually dramatic. No, all those things you mentioed would have to be footnotes in that hour of programing. That's why the field work has to be the focus of any filmed work, it's visually dynamic. Different things work for different mediums and the show (visual) and website (text) were two totally different mediums.

I can't see Freakylinks with anyone but the original cast. Unfortunately, I think age has become more obvious of Ethan. I do think this show would be a huge success though at present time. Just look at how Heroes has interactive options. That part of the show is freaking huge apparently. There's a whole other side to the stories shown through the comics and Hiro's blog. Freakylinks was definitely ahead of it's time.
Heck, to get this show back on the air though I'd say lets get some fans together and a camera and make it happen ourselves. Desperate measures, yes. And illegal since if memory serves Fox owns the rights to the show and probably has some stupid clause saying no one else can recreate the show, like they did on I think Stargate or something like that. Lameazoids.

Too bad we couldn't bring it back in comic book form. Like an online comic book. New adventures and stuff. If I could draw comics I would start this off. Anyone out there thinking they could help with this?

How does one start this? Hmmm. Getting the comic cartoons (or graphic novel, which is better). We would have to find someone with that type of talent who would be willing to do this for us. Let me poke around and see where this can take us. Stay tuned.

Okay here is my first attempt at a comic book version of Derek Barnes. Let me know what you think.

This took my about three hours to do. Damn that is a long time. I will look into trying to make it easier. Get your scripts ready freaks!
