HONG KONG DAY 5
Word.
I’ve been in LA this week doing some casting, meeting some cool people. Also did a camera test last night, but more on that later.
HONG KONG - WEDNESDAY
Woke up in much better spirits than the day before. We had found some awesome locations on Tuesday so shooting in HONG KONG and keeping the current plan seems like it can really happen. Also, I’m going home after being away for almost two weeks. I’m a happy Cuban camper.
Packed up and headed out with the boys to the OCTOBER PICTURES office, just a short walk from our hotel. Met with On and Daniel one last time, a line-by-line rundown of the budget with questions and concerns after our five days here. It goes very well. These guys are great and really know what they’re doing. We definitely chose the right production partner, that’s for sure.
Back to the streets, we eat some of the best sushi I’ve ever had, then wander around a bit, two white-asses and a tall Cuban monkey man walking among the Chinese. Yes, we attract some looks. My height, Gregg’s Grizzly Adams beard and Matt’s general red-headed whiteness makes us a real popular trio.
The market was amazing. I see a lot of animal parts that I don’t even want to try to identify.
Soon it was time to head to the airport, but first, we stopped to see the HONG KONG LASER LIGHT SHOW ‘07! My crappy photos don’t do it justice but basically, the whole city becomes a big ass light show. It’s pretty amazing. Lasers and lights on at least half of the buildings come to life and do all kinds of junk as music plays throughout areas of the city. The coordination is really amazing. They are constantly adding new lights to more buildings so I look forward to bringing the kids out here in a few months.
We arrived at the airport for a pretty late flight, so we were all ready to hit the business class seats hard and get a little shut-eye. But first, a big chrome thing had to be photographed. Maybe there’s some significance to this shiny, squashed egg but I’m too damn tired to find out. Compton looks done, too.
Good flight. I head out to Maryland the next morning. It’s good to be going home, man.
So the HONG KONG trip was a bit scary there for a little while, but fuck, we got just about everything we needed. I’m definitely going to have to go through the script again and make some major changes to it after seeing all the locations or lack of locations, but I think the script will be much stronger now with a more precise vision after having actually visited the place I’ve been writing about all these months.
I’m tired as hell and excited to see my family again. With some luck, we’ll be back in HONG KONG in a few months to start shooting SEVENTH MOON.
